WELCOME TO THE MEDICO-LEGAL SOCIETY OF TORONTO

The Medico-Legal Society of Toronto was founded in 1950 by doctors and lawyers to promote medical, legal and scientific knowledge, cooperation and understanding between the professions in the interest of justice and the best interests of patients and clients.

MLST PHILIPPA SAMWORTH AWARD

This award recognizes an MLST member for superb dedication and commitment to the Society and to its objectives of advancing medico-legal knowledge to benefit both the healthcare and legal professions and in the interests of patients, clients, and justice.

Recipient: Gayle Brock, Brock Medical Malpractice Law PC



Gayle established Brock Medical Malpractice Law PC in April 2010, leveraging 14 years of past experience in medical malpractice litigation at a prominent personal injury law firm. Her dual passions for medicine and law fuel her steadfast advocacy for patients and families affected by medical malpractice. With a track record that spans 29 years and appearances before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Appeal, Gayle excels in both litigation and negotiation, consistently securing favourable outcomes for her clients in complex cases.

In 1992, Gayle earned her law degree from Western University Law School and was called to the Bar in 1994. She furthered her legal expertise by obtaining a Master of Laws degree from Sydney University in Australia in 1996.

Recognized as a trailblazer in Ontario’s medical malpractice legal sphere, Gayle previously presided as the President of the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto in 2022-2023 and is a member of the prestigious Holland Group, showcasing her dedication to the field and her commitment to fostering professional excellence.


MEDICO-LEGAL SOCIETY OF TORONTO AWARD

This award recognizes an MLST member who has made outstanding contributions to the Society, their profession, or the community at large.


Recipient: Lonny Rosen, C.S., Rosen Sunshine

Lonny Rosen is a founding partner of the firm, having established Rosen Sunshine with his partner Elyse Sunshine in 2011, with whom he has practised since 1999.

Lonny’s practice is focused on health and regulatory law, and he has specialized in this area since 1999. In 2006, Lonny became certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Health Law.

Lonny is a lawyer, practising in the areas of health and regulatory law. He is also a teacher (Adjunct Professor of Osgoode Hall Law School, teaching Health Law), and a member of and contributor to organizations such as the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations (Chair of the OBA and CBA Health Law Sections), The Advocates’ Society (Director from 2014-2018) and the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto (Council member and Chair of an annual program). For ten years, he served as an adjudicator (Senior Lawyer Member of the Consent and Capacity Board),
