Celebrating 75 Years of Medical-Legal Excellence
The Medico-Legal Society of Toronto (MLST) is a community steeped in tradition. Founded in 1950 as a dinner club to bring together professionals from the medical and legal fields, the MLST has grown into a respected institution that fosters collaboration, dialogue, and innovation.
This year, we proudly mark our 75th Anniversary—a milestone that honours the legacy of those who built our foundation, celebrates the contributions of our present members, and looks ahead to the future we will continue to shape together.
Honouring Our Past Presidents A highlight of the evening was our tribute to MLST’s Past Presidents. From both founding and today's leaders, these remarkable individuals have shaped the mission, values, and enduring impact of our Society.
We express our deepest gratitude to each of them for their leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the MLST. Their legacy continues to guide and inspire us. What an honour it was to have the following past presidents celebrating this milestone with us.

Messages from Our Members
We were touched to receive many heartfelt congratulatory messages from members who were in attendance as well as those who were unable to attend. Here are just a few of the wonderful reflections that capture the spirit of the MLST:
"I still remember the day I joined MLST as though it were yesterday. I met an incredible group of medical and legal professionals—people deeply committed to building a meaningful understanding of the issues and challenges at the intersection of medicine and law, all with the shared goal of bringing out the best in both fields.
MLST’s vibrant, timely discussions, dedication to education and mentorship of future generations, and influential contributions to healthcare policy have created a unique and invaluable space. It’s a space for respectful, open dialogue—something increasingly rare and deeply needed today.
Serving as MLST's Past President has been one of the greatest honours of my career. On the occasion of its 75th Anniversary, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to each and every member for helping make MLST the outstanding success it is and for ensuring that its future will be just as bright for many years to come." — Dr. Laura Hawryluck, 2013-2014, MLST President
"Serving as President of the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto was a meaningful chapter in my professional journey. The MLST has long been a place where legal and medical minds come together in the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect. I’m proud to have played a role in its legacy and grateful for the friendships and insights it has given me over the years. I look forward to seeing the Society continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead." —Joseph Caprara, 2018-2029, MLST President
"It is both an honour and a privilege to be part of the MLST, first as a member and now as part of the Executive. The MLST has fostered my medico-legal knowledge and provided access to other like-minded professionals, which has improved my skills as a clinician, medico-legal assessor, and expert witness. Congratulations on 75 years!"
